Newcastle Disease

2019-12-21: vND positive in LA County pet store

Urgent: Sat., Dec. 21, 2019 - just confirmed - vND positive in a Los Angeles County pet store.  Please note: this is another commercial property.  It is NOT a backyard flock.  It does NOT involve game fowl.  Please know that the virus does not care the breed of chicken, nor who the owner is.  EVERYONE must work together with the highest biosecurity, to stop the spread of this disease.

2019-12-20: More confirmed vND cases in southern California

At this writing, the number of confirmed vND cases in southern California, continues to increase.  Our State Veterinarian, Dr. Annette Jones, “strongly advises postponing all poultry shows in high risk areas OUTSIDE of the current vND regional quarantine, particularly those in the Central Valley of California.”

2019-11-25: New virulent Newcastle Disease (vND) cases in San Bernardino County

Unfortunately, November has seen the detection of 3 new cases of vND.  The cases involved 2 backyards and one retail store (feed and pets).   “Good job” to the backyarder who contacted a veterinarian when the home flock became ill.

We will never get out from under the quarantine, as long as new cases continue to pop up.   Most people are doing a good job following directives.  Please spread the word and keep reminding fellow backyarders to obey the quarantine and practice the best biosecurity possible.
